Natalie Callwood is a Canadian based visual artist who works from her studio in Kimberley BC where she creates intuitive, abstract paintings which explore colour, emotion and nature. Originally from Switzerland, where she went to Art-Trade-School in Zürich. During her three year apprenticeship as an ceramic painter working in a small ceramic manufactory in Rheinfelden Switzerland where she learned all facets of the ceramic profession.In her late 20’s Natalie moved to Canada where she started a family in BC.After a hiatus to focus on raising her children,Natalie started to focused on abstract painting which got her to experiment with different techniques from fluid art, alcohol inks, encaustic and resin art, till she fell in love with mixed media and collaging. Natalie’s practice is about slowing down, observing and bringing a quiet contemplation and attention to the present moment in time. Her joyful emotional and colorful paintings are inspired by the present moment but also the pure joy of playing with paints and papers.Mixed media is such a great way to recycle discarded household items like magazines, newspaper, cardboard and further more she help the planet one art piece at the time. Natalie explores the notion that art just like nature can have a positive affect on our well being, alleviate stress and anxiety. Being creative is therapeutic and has a big part in mental health, creativity helped Natalie through a lot of difficult times in her own life. Spending or focusing any small amount of time in nature releases a sense of calm, happiness, clarity and peacefulness that helps Natalie’s daily life.It gives her energy and inspiration in her art practice. Natalie’s intention behind her art is to inspire positive feelings and enhance well being. Her paintings are a celebration of life and the beauty of the world it brings happiness and hope to the observer.
