My name is Rubina Panjwani. I am an Abstract Artist living in Toronto, Canada. My art is a metaphor representing my passion for life and love of nature. I first began experimenting with art as child through painting and drawing—cherished hobbies throughout young adulthood. I remember being captivated by colour and creating all sorts of art projects, like personalized cards, portraits, landscapes, and other vistas. In high school and university, I began formally submitting my work in competitions and won prizes and awards. For the first time in my young adult life, I looked at my artistic hobbies and wondered, could they be more? Alas, life can often take you in unexpected directions and, for some time, I devoted my effort and attention elsewhere, including getting a degree in economics, raising my two (now-grown) children, and building a life in a new country.
When I moved to Canada over two decades ago, I serendipitously re-discovered my passion for art, by turning art into Wearable Art. I began making jewelry with gemstones and silver, and became passionate about wire-wrapping, a skill that requires both a challenging technical ability and strong creative vision. For a while, I completed immersed myself in designing jewelry. In doing so, I also found a home with like-minded artists in my local community, participated in many, many shows, and got inspired by other creatives working with a range of mediums, including paint – my very first love.
Filled with inspiration and niggling urgency, a few years ago, I went and did it! I bought acrylic paints and a canvas and started painting again. Immediately, I felt warmth and a sense of right-ness, like I was home. I am so glad I listened to that inner voice because I haven’t been able to stop creating since. And now, I am grateful and so very excited that I get to share my work with the rest of the world!
I paint Abstract in Acrylic and each painting has almost seven or more layers, with different thickness, shapes, strokes, colours, lines, and texture. Nature remains my eternal inspiration. The world is chock-full of colour and vibrancy, if only we paid it a bit of mindful attention. It is no wonder that I am deeply moved by the beauty found in the forests, mountain, flowers, skies and rainbows, animals, birds, changing seasons and…well, you name it and I’ve been inspired by it!
Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see physically with his eyes… It is the emancipation of the mind. It is an exploration into unknown areas.”– Arshile Gorky. Painting in abstract is about capturing your emotions using a type of free-form visual language that is both simple and complex. There is a true sense of freedom in its creation and interpretation. I hope you experience and enjoy some of these qualities in my work. Thanks for visiting my store.
with love,
